Robert Gorman, MD Presented with the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians’ Chair Award
Trenton, N.J. – The New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians (NJAFP) recently presented Robert Gorman, MD with the Chair Award at the NJAFP’s Family Medicine Forum in Atlantic City. The NJAFP, the largest primary care medical specialty society in the state, is a leader in health care practice transformation and advocacy, advancing the specialty of family medicine and improving access to high quality health care for patients.
The Chair Award, one of the most important recognitions presented annually, is awarded to a person who has dedicated a lifetime of service to both the Academy and the specialty of family medicine. NJAFP honored Dr. Gorman, a board-certified family physician, for his tireless commitment to family medicine and contributions to community health and the state of New Jersey.
“Dr. Gorman is a physician’s physician,” said Peter Carrazzone, MD, fellow family physician and colleague at Vanguard Medical Group. “He is an attentive listener, thoughtful and extremely well-liked by patients, peers and staff. He has been a long-time advocate for family physicians and is a great role model for all.”
Dr. Gorman joined the NJAFP in 1985 and became a member of the Board of Directors in 2010. He served as president in 2015. Board-certified in family medicine, he co-founded Vanguard Medical Group in Verona, N.J., where he has been actively practicing family medicine for more than 30 years. Currently, Dr. Gorman serves as chairman of the department of family medicine and member of the medical executive committee at Hackensack Meridian Health Mountainside Medical Center. Additionally, he is an assistant clinical professor of family medicine at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School and school physician for the Cedar Grove Public Schools.
“Family medicine is distinguished by the personal relationships that we have with our patients and the longitudinal care that we provide,” said Dr. Gorman. “Those relationships are also what I enjoy most about my work.”
Dr. Gorman earned his medical degree from Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School and completed a residency in family medicine at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair. He has been a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians since 1992 and has been honored repeatedly as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly, New Jersey Monthly and New York Magazine.
Dr. Gorman resides in North Caldwell, N.J.
