COURSE DESCRIPTION

This monograph reviews treatment options for alcohol and/or drug use disorders, with a focus on identifying treatment settings and selecting appropriate modalities. Topics include:

  • Defining Substance Use Disorders
    • Diagnostic Criteria for Substance Use Disorder
  • Developing a Strategy for Managing Substance Use Disorders
    • NIDA Principles of Effective Drug Addiction Treatment
  • Determining Optimal Treatment Settings for Substance Use Disorders
    • ASAM placement criteria and levels of care
